Junior Guinea Pig
Hi my two boars got neutered nearly two weeks a go (they live separate, pending new wives after 6 weeks)
One of my pigs is fine, happy as can be. Abdominal wound healed nicely and glue fell off.
My second piggy, who firstly seemed to tolerate the surgery alot better, his wound wasn't as quick to heal and his glue got some fluff and suspected poop squished into it. He had painkillers & antibiotics for a week post op and 2 post op checks. The vet said his wound looked ok but he suspected he may have reacted to the internal sutures or had abit of seepage from the wound which made it appear abit more inflamed than my other pigs wound.
He got the all clear last Friday a week post op but since then, today really all of a sudden he is very quiet and hiding away. He has ate his nuggets and his veggies and a little bit of hay but only when ive took it to him in his house. Ive picked him up to see his wound and its very much the same (in the pic, the dark is the glue) I was about to put him down when I noticed a little poop sticking out his bum. I thought I had disturbed him pooing so put him back, got him back out 30 mins later and the same poo was still sticking out his bum. It eventually came out after I gently put pressure on his lower abdomen but in doing so he felt lumpy on his lower abdomen, the skin at the side of the surgical site and under it, the space between the wound and his bum.
Hes eating and drinking, pooing and weeing fine but his poops look a bit smaller than normal though not oddly shaped.
My other guinea pig doesn't like to be handled so I cant feel his tummy for comparison. These are also my first pigs.
Should this area of his tummy feel abit lumpy? Its big lumps. Not protruding though through the skin you can only feel them. I just didn't know if I was feeling just his tummy and its naturally uneven, or whether he does actually have abnormal lumps and bumps that shouldn't be there.
I'm ringing the vets first thing tomorrow as I do think he needs to be checked over again & reassessed but can anyone advise on their piggy? Is the area in question on their lower abdomen totally smooth or do they have lumps and bumps there / muscle maybe? I honestly have no clue .
Just to add the surgical site or the surrounding skin isn't hot to touch or red. No weeping from the wound also. I know no one can give me vetinary advice here but I just wondered what I was feeling on his abdomen could it be normal.
