I would like advice on getting another pig , we had 2 10 month old sisters and found 1 had died on Saturday , the remaining girl is not talking anymore and I'm worried about her being lonely , we just had her sitting with our rabbit and she was squeaking to her , can anyone advise me on whether I should get another baby please , thank you,

@Wiebke

Why not get her a teddy to cuddle with for the time being until you have sorted out a new friend and how you're going to do it.

Getting her a same sex friend would really help her. Look at the rescue locater on here to find your nearest rescue. They will let you bring your little on so she can choose her own friend.

Hi and welcome! I am very sorry for your loss!

Which country and where are you located? Here in Britain, we have a number of good and expienced guinea pig rescues that offer bonding at the rescue, so your bereaved girl can choose who she is happiest with. This can be a sow or neutered boar of any age; the important thing is that they like each other - that is why dating when possible is such a boon; you don't run the risk of ending up with two piggies who won't get on well. All of our recommended rescues also only rehome healthy and guaranteed not pregnant piggies.
You may find this thread here from our Rainbow Pets section helpful: http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/threads/looking-after-a-bereaved-piggy.109674/
Here is our recommended good standard UK rescues locator: http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/pages/guinea-pig-rescue-locator/

We put a teddy in straight away and she has a blanket under her bed , she also ate all her fresh food last night as usual . :)

ahh sorry to hear of your loss, i hope your little girl picks up soon :)
going piggy dating with a rescue is a great idea, the recommended ones on here all give you support & advice aftercare. Also you know you will have a pregnancy free companion & that the piggy friend will either be neutered or definitely a girl. Most quick sell pet shops don't have a clue whether its a girl or boy they are selling you & dont even care as long as they sell you one, not worried if your current piggy could get pregnant due to the shops miss-sexing.

At least your girl sounds like she has company with the rabbit nearby, although i hope she's not in with the rabbit? Its not recommended to house them together as a rabbit can easily injure or kill a piggy inadvertently, also the diet requirements are different for both, mainly that a rabbit can produce its own vitamin C but a piggy cant which causes health problems :(

Good luck on your piggy dating & hopefully we'll have to pigtures to see of your furbaby & new friend soon :yahoo:
xx
