About a month ago I bought 2 male guinea pigs after a week one unfortunately passed so we bought another and introduced them slowly but it turned out the new male had a infection in his eye and the vet gave him pain killers for a dog and sadly passed this morning after moaning all night and not moving, so I'm just wondering what the next step with the male that's still with us as I don't want him to feel lonely and depressed?

It would be good if you could start your own thread about this - as members are then more likely to see this message - and advise you .

I'm so sorry for your recent losses :(

I would hate for this to happen to you again.

Personally, I think it would be ideal if you have a rescue nearby where you could adopt a companion for your remaining guinea pig .

Are you near any of the rescues on our rescue locator ?

Hi Truffles, sorry for your loss and welcome to the forum. Sorry it is in such sad circumstances.

Whereabouts are you located? How is your remaining piggy doing and what is his name?

Lee

No but my friend has a 3 guide pigs for sale and we would just get the one but it's female would that be a problem?

The guinea pig I have now is called Timmy he's a bit jumpy but we have been giving him lots of attention.

Yes, if your boy is not neutered, you wouldn't want them to breed.. You don't want babies as pregnancies can be very dangerous even for very experienced owners
Timmy is a lovely name is that him in your avatar?

Yes he is neutered because the first guinea pig we got for him was a male but we thought he was a female as that is what the vet said.

Would Timmy get on with a female guinea pig? Is it good or bad the female we found is the same age as him?

There is no reason why he wouldn't have a read of the bonding guide above. What size cage do you have?

It's quite big it's a two story hutch but it's kept in our conservatory. Timmy still isn't sure about the ramp though as he has gone but but won't go back down lol

OK - but please keep an eye on the temperature in your conservatory - as conservatories can get hot when the weather is sunny

Yes we do, I also that two femal guinea pigs called sandy and nibbles and they used to stay together but now one is at the top of hutch and other at the bottom do you know why this could be? Btw this is a different hutch to the one Timmy is in.

Sometimes guinea pigs like their own space - it's OK as long as they're not fighting
