Hi everyone,
I currently have 2 female piggies, I’ve had them for a few months now and the Ferplast 120 just seems to small for them now.
I’m looking at a c&c cage 4x2. Does the space make a massive difference for them? I love seeing them having floor time cause they are so much more active, playing together.
My other option is a Ferplast indoor cottage, with a run attached.
I do have a cat, so want to ensure they will be safe enough.
I love the idea of the c&c cage, easy clean, fleece liners made to size, but the Ferplast indoor cottage would have the upstairs, downstairs & a run attached.

I guess I’m just after some opinions, I feel so conflicted but want to give them the best space possible.
 
My piggies love their 4x2 c&c cage! I definitely saw a big difference when I moved them to the bigger cage and you can get them with lids on which is what we have done as we also have a cat. They are definitely so much easier to clean as well.
 
I've just upgraded my pigs from Ferplasts (a 120 and 160) to a 6x2 C&C from C and C Guinea Pig Cages | Guinea Pig Cages. I've had to split it in half, as two of my pigs really don't get on, and my attempt to rebond them failed, but I've just bought some extra grids from Wayfair with the idea of extending. Even in a 3x2 section each, my girls seem so much happier. I think they appreciate the extra width more than I'd thought they would. *edited to add, there's a pair of sows in each side. :)

I'd definitely say that maximum ground space beats out cages that offer an upstairs/downstairs as it leaves much more room for running laps and popcorning! Also, you'll find that a simpler 4 x 2 is much easier to clean out and means less frequent cleaning as the poops/pees aren't as concentrated to one area. We recently moved our boars into a 5 x 2 (possibly a bit longer) enclosure and we couldn't believe the difference in how much cleaner they stayed.
 
I know it does seem much, but a 4x2 is about 25% bigger than a 120. Your piggies will love the extra space :luv: I can just see them popcorning and doing zoomies now! :D

I’m very excited about getting them a bigger space, and a new cage will obviously mean some new accessories for them I’m sure they will love it.

I have yet to meet a piggy who didn't love the move from a traditional cage to a c and c. As Tim says, even a 4 x 2 gives so much more room than the 120 and it makes it easier to fit in extra houses, tunnels etc. And that means piggy shopping :yahoo::yahoo:. Best fun for humans and piggies alike.
 
Mine loved their new C&C cage when I got it last year.
I decided to stick with wood shavings even though I do have to crawl under a table to get to the far end.
I made one of the grids into a door so they can still get in and out for floor time. I use a wooden bridge over the correx and they happily climb over it in and out.
 
Mine started in a large 2 level hutch, but moved on tot a C&C when they became permanent indoor piggies.
Their first C&C wasn't actually a lot bigger than their hutch, but the large, open floor space made a HUGE different to them, and they were so much more active and excited.

Another huge advantage (I thought) was they became much friendlier and easy to handle due to the more open layout of the C&C.
 
Thank you everyone, you’ve definitely helped me make my decision.. & my little piggies will be getting a c&c upgrade next month, the shopping will begin :yahoo:

Hi! The comparison picture in this guide here is giving you a better idea in terms of size difference; it is quite a bit larger (ca. 75x140 cm). A 2x4 C&C cage is pretty much the same ground space as a 2x5 ft (60x150 cm) traditional cage with the added bonus that you can create an extra hay loft.

All the best! My own piggies live with C&C, but I have a very different layout since I have a few more... I love the grids because they are so versatile.

Oh wow, that layout is amazing & must make such a difference from the Ferplast 120. When I first got the Ferplast 120 I thought it looked HUGE, now it just looks tiny & I can’t wait to give them some more space. I LOVE your 6x2.... very lucky piggies:love::drool:

I love some of the layouts I’ve seen, and I like the idea that I could expand too.
 
I actually feel really bad for my girls Bella and Jasmine who spent their lives in a fereplast..I never knew a c and c would be so easy to build :)
