Hi everyone.

I am seeking some advice please. I had 3 sows with a boar for a little while, one sow is nearly a year old the boar 1yr & 4 mths and the other 2 sows 7 mths old, the thing is I had to separate 1of the 7 mths sows because of her sister wouldn't leave her alone and the boar wouldn't, she was at the bottom of the pecking order maybe this is the reason completely, but I can't help but question if it was just the teenage years and if it would have settled down in time, or was it a space issue? The cage is a 2x6 c & c cage.

I had to move my sow to my other group of girls so their is a group of five now in a 2x6 c & c cage, which I don't think is ideal, but they are all doing good. I was wondering if I should take one of the older girls from this group to put with my boar and two sows or to stay as it is? How many sows can you have in a 2 X 6 C & C? One to each grid length isn't it,? A boar and 3 sows are o.k in a 2 x 6 c & c, ? Boars need one grid extra don't they?

Not sure what's best to do now.

I would leave them as they are now if they get along. A 2x5 can house 3 and a 2x6 can house 4. So 5 piggies need a 2x7. Of course bigger is better and you may find it’s not quite enough by the time you put in the (5) hides etc.

How long was the 7 month old in with the first group? And what exactly were they doing to her? Was she not allowed to eat or rest? How was her weight?

I bonded them just before Christmas, things seemed well for a while, then in late February the others started doing a lot of nose punching and rumble strutting and see would make a lot of noise and seemed really scared of them even when they just got close to her, she even got fighted and make lots of noise with me picking her up. She seemed to be eating pretty well, maybe not as much as she should have been, her weight has always been good, she would have times that she rested for a good long time and other times were she no sooner got in a hide away and she would be hooked out of it.

It doesn’t sound like she was being bothered all the time. The squeaking may have been in submission. You’ve moved her now so leave her where she is. You need to increase the space for the five.

Me and my sis live over 100 miles apart and we get on better than we ever have! Just saying... 😜
Seriously, if you get the sense your girl is happier she probably is x
