So we got Crazy on Sunday and we think he has mites which he is being treated for. Whilst in his run he starts squeaking and shaking his head. Would giving him a bath help ease the irritability? or is there anything else we can do?

I also noticed when I picked him up earlier he has a lot more scabs on him than I thought.
 
you can get some guinea pig cream which has aloe vera in that sooths their skin, i used it on sonny when he had mites, it cools them down and takes the itches out. i plastered him in it between his injections, he was so good. he was only 10weeks old when he had it, he had baby doses from the vets
 
I think Johnson's make a nice cream which you can get in the bigger pet shops. I know Pets at Home definately does it. It's called Tea Tree Cream but it has added aloe vera and it just cools it down and helps ease the itching. I have used this many many times on bite wounds, fungal infections etc between treatments with great success so really reccomend it :)
 
I always keep Galens Garden Green Cream in. It was recommended to me from someone off the forum and is a great all round soothing cream for piggies. Website is Galensgarden.co etc. or something like that. This wouldnt be in place of or instead of anything vet recommended, but a good thing to have in for minor abrasions etc. x
 
Olive oil works very well, especially used as a cleaner on itchy ears. If he is shaking his head in the run then perhaps it's the ears that are irritating him - just a thought. Olive oil on sore patches is also very soothing, it reduces itching and can be licked away without harm! But I have never put it onto scabs, I'm not sure if softening the scabs is a good idea. I have used it to good effect on sore/flaky skin that's been scratched raw.

Oh yes - cleaning ears is a 'mummy' job so use a little oil on your warm finger rather than a cotton bud if you can stand it. (And if you don't have long nails) This is a bonding type of thing to do with your piggie!
