Right, this might not be the best place for this as we all keep pigies but this is the situation I find myself in.

On a morning I use the hoover to clean out the piggies and start at around 7.20-7.25 and I'm done by 7.40 as I need to get out and get my bus to work.

Also do the same type of thing on a night time but always before 8.30pm.

Now the other day the wife of my neighbour mentioned to my wife that her husband who had been working from home wasn't happy with my hoovering during the day.

Now, of course, I didnt pay this any attention as it was during the day and IMO the answer would be tough.

So this morning I'm cleaning out the cages and he bangs on the wall, I ddint stop and he still hasnt had the nerve to speak to me about it.

I've checked and the council can get involved if the noise is classed as anti social between the hours of 11pm and 7am, which I would say mine isnt, as 1) it is not between these hours and 2) it is bloody hoovering.

I really don't think I'm doing anything wrong and do it this early only on a monday- friday and dont do it on a weekend.

Anyone thing I'm out of order?

You arent doing anything wrong and as you said you are within the friendly times.

He can get over it.

Agreed! It is within the times so he can complain and be as arsey as he likes but no one with any power will do owt as it's not during unsociable hours and like you say, it's freakin' hoovering! rolleyes

I dont think it is unreasonable as such.

If that were at my house if they came to me and said look I work shifts I have to sleep is there any chance you can do the hoovering at another time then id change to a pan and brush :D but banging on the wall and being daft about it wont change what i do. One of my neighbours is great and the other has feral kids ugh.

When I use vet bed I use a handheld hoover that isnt noisy and do that at 7am and 6pm weekdays :D I will be back on vet bed once the temps drop a bit :D bedding all summer for the pigs which they seem to like and they seem to like different beddings and stuff.

Used to use the hand held one, but now with having 4 cages and limited time, and the fact it doesnt last long in the power department, the hoover is quick (much quicker)

He doesnt work shifts, we are also getting a sun room bulit and sticking the cages in there, so there will even be less noise in the future

I didn't realise reasonable was considered as early as 7! I thought it was at least 8.

You're within the time so he really has no leg to stand on... And if he has that huge an issue he can speak to you politely instead of being a grump!

You are within the socially accepted time limits, however it is quite early. If your neighbours have a problem, it is up to them to approach you politely and try to work out a compromise that suits both parties and the clear understanding that it is a favour you are doing them and not a right of theirs.

That is what I would do and have done in the past with neighbours who had a deafness problem or were in the habit of partying regularly into the small hours. Banging on the wall is certainly the wrong way to tackle the problem! personally, I don't hink it helps if you start a feud over it, though.

Some people need to get a life. My neighbours are the same. It was ok for us to suffer for 6 months when they had their extension built but they complained about the noise when I was doing my bathroom. it's also ok when their children wake me up after nights for so-called piano lessons. They haven't improved in the last 3 years! It's a waste of money if you ask me. I don't think hoovering is unreasonable. It's not like you do it at 2am!

Pity they didn't have the balls to approach you directly.

Ignore it.

Forgot to mention, it's not as even if he is even trying to have lie in's or anything. He leaves the house, about ten minutes after I start, if not sometmes before.

So guess I must be causing havoc with his toast eating.

And the wife, does not want to cause a problem either, but not sure what I can do, other than not clean the piggies on a morning.

If he is awake anyway then I dont think there is anything to complain about, yes OK the hoover is an annoying sound (its just one of those quirks of being in a terrace/semi) but its not disturbing him or his sleep really if hes up and about to leave the house :-S
