Hi guys
Just looking for some advice on starting a rescue I already run a small pet boarding service and grooming service, bonding service

My dream would be to run a rescue for piggies

I am sorting out my boarding service this year then next year I am getting a small shed to add cc cages to for both boarding and rescue

I need advice on all the paper work like adoption forms what to add in etc
Home checking how do I do this

Any advice will be appreciated thanks Donna
I am in west Lothian Scotland

I don't know anything about this but I've PMed you with a couple of links, no idea if they are what you are looking for.

It's nice to see that someone is starting a rescue in Scotland as there is definitely a need for more rescues north of the border. My rescue, Tees Valley Guine Pig Rescue is near Middlesbrough about 100 miles south of the border & we have taken several piggies from the Glasgow, Edinburgh & Dundee areas.

My rescue has been going now for 18 months. Most of the costs for food, bedding & initial set up costs were funded by myself. The donations we receive tend to just about cover vets fees. So far we have rehomed 132 piggies & I'm currently looking after 30 with a further 15 being looked after by our lovely foster mums. We don't normally have that many being fostered but just did a large rescue of 22 piggies last month that have swelled our numbers. We also have another 6 coming into the rescue or to foster homes later this week.

It is important to have either a website or facebook page & facebook group. It is from these that most of you earlier adoptions will come from. As time goes by you will also get more by word of mouth. Get in touch with your local guinea pig savvy vet & get a separate account for the rescue, most with give you RSPCA rates for neuters & 10% off for rescue piggies but you need to get this agreed in writing first. Also try to get a wholesale account with one of the pet supplies wholesalers such as Best Pets which are an offshoot of Batleys & most will give genuin rescues an account. They don't like you going in for small amounts of supplies so try to get stocked up with orders over £50 + VAT. The advantages are great as most of what you buy will be 50% less than retail price.

If you need any help or info, please send me a pm & good luck withh your rescue. It will take over your life but is so rewarding :) xx

Thanks xx
It would be a small rescue as I have 43 piggies myself, all going in cc cages and this year I will have 30 boarding hutches, I want to have at least 10 rescue cages xx
That's fine and the council are fine too, my neighbours are great it was mostly just the start up and as my boarding service is expanding well with new boarders coming in every month now I feel and lots of people keep contacting me about rescue piggies I want to start next year so I can do all my homework now xx thanks again guys xx

Hi Stewart I am admin on your piggy train group hehe I love your groups I think you are still on my group guinea pigs uk was united

I would be neutering all piggies as I do not want them used as breeding piggies

My boarding and grooming service pays quite well I will be getting the last of my hutches in for my boarding next month then the rest of the year its toys and finishing decorating the house and piggy cages xx

Next year a small shed for some boarding and rescue cages

Wish me luck I hope the Scottish piggy slaves will watch for me xx
