Pops is making a significant attempt to eat on her own!

She stopped eating on the 30th June last year, and has been syringe fed since.

A few days ago she started drinking from the water bottle again, and then began to show an interest in grass and hay. Today she made a beeline for the veg as soon as I put it into the cage and although rather awkwardly, managed to eat some spring greens. While I cleaned her cage out I popped her into the run and she nibbled at the grass.

I never thought this day would come! I know we still have a long way to go and i'm sure we will have setbacks, but to see her managing to eat has really made day! I can't stop smiling!

My biggest thanks has to go to my vet, Simon Maddock of the Cat and Rabbit Care Clinic in Northampton! He's an absolute star and without him I'm sure Pops wouldn't be here today! He's seen Pops weekly for the past few months, as we found little and often was working best for her!

I would say to anyone with a piggy with dental problems, never give up hope! It takes commitment and determination, but the very special bond that has formed between me and Pops is absolutely amazing! She's one special piggy and I love her so much!

Such brilliant news Debbie! a photo of the lovely girl may be in order? ;)

That brilliant news. Its just shows what perseverance does.. Pops is very luck to have such a dedicted mummy.

Oh wow - after all that time! I think I remember pics of her with the critical care? What a sweetie! And how rewarding for you to see her eating by herself at last

I was overjoyed to hear this earlier today. Miss Pops you are a star with a will to live so strong you amaze me. x) I hope when i next see you you'll be munching away & not turning your back on me - way to go Miss Pops xoxo xoxo

Fabulous, I am thrilled at such wonderful news! You have been doing an amazing job with her Debbie, just amazing. To keep a piggie going, who is totally reliant on syringe-feeding, is tough when it is just for a few weeks, but for 9 months? That is some strength, determination and entire devotion. :)

Keep munching Pops, go girlie! x

major congratulations to both of you what a fantastic acheivement. I hope Pops continues to do well :)

I would say its been a combination of Pops having a huge zest for life and plenty of attitude, combined with a fantastic vet and my sheer determination to give her the best life possible.

Today she has managed to eat kale and some spinach. She's very slow and holds the food with her feet and tears it off, but she's doing it and thats all that matters.

:(|):):laluot_29::laluot_05::laluot_24: YAY! You go little Pops! I'm so chuffed for you!

I'm not sure of the story surrounding Pops's illness but well done Pops and Debbie. From reading your post she sounds like a completely different piggie! :)

Thanks for the link. What a lovely story Debbie and how cute is she ^) . All credit to you for the hard work you put in :)
