My Guinea pig (Neo) went in for surgery to get an abscess removed from his neck. He was separated from my other pig (Fudge) for 2 days but since I put them back together all they have done is fight. They grab each other by the neck and circling round the cage. Is this normal? One minute they will be cuddling up to each other and the next fighting. I can't keep them separated forever and I understand that Neo is still in the healing process from his surgery on Thursday but I dunno what to do. I don't have any other cages apart from the one their in and all I can do is put a barrier up to block them from fighting but last night Neo managed to jump over the barrier and start fighting with Fudge again. What can I do? And why are they doing this? It is almost as if Neo cannot remember who Fudge is since surgery.?/

Neo will smell different as he has been away from Fudge and it will have changed the hierarchy in the cage. I would let Neo recuperate and get over his surgery then in a neutral area (like the bath tub) introduce them back together. I think in this case once Neo is healed then a bath for both of them beforehand wouldn't hurt so they smell the same and are back to square one. Big pile of hay in the middle and a towel on hand incase any fights kick off. Watch them both for an hour see how they get on in a neutral area. Make sure you thoroughly clean the cage so smells of neither this is really important as you need to establish an order (vinegar solution is really good) and if everything goes fine in the neutral space try them in the cage and watch them. Sadly sometimes boars can and do fall out and there is nothing you can do to make them go back together.
