Hi All,

I'm just after a bit of advice really. I lost one of my piggies this week. His gut had shut down and after a day in the vet and myself and my boyfriend looking after him over night we took him back in the morning and there was nothing more they could do. He was about 5 and that was his first vet trip in the 3 years I had him.

I rescued him and his brothers when they were about 2 years old, we lost one very early on to a twisted gut so I have just had the 2 of them living together until this week. Now that Ive lost one I have a little fella left on his own. As I say he is about 5ish (not sure exactly as he was rescued) and he has always had the company of his brothers. I know that guinea pigs don't like living on their own so what is the best thing for me to do? Should I try and find a friend for him and if so whats the best way to go about doing this? He is a healthy chappy with a lovely character, I don't want him to be unhappy on his own.

Thanks in advance :)

I'm in the same situation. The best thing to do is try boar dating. If you use the rescue locator to find a good rescue near you that boar dates you can take your boy there and let him meet other boys and see who he gets on with.

Hi!

There is one of our recommended good standard guinea pig rescues not far from you that offers dating under expert supervision at the rescue, Wheek &Squeak! This is by the safest and most knowledgeable place to find a new companion pig. http://wheekandsqueak.webs.com/

I am very sorry for your loss! You are most welcome to post a tribute to your lost boy in our Rainbow pets section. Gut stasis is a nasty thing to come down with; it is often difficult to get the guts going again afterwards and it can lead to the whole body closing down. :(
