Age

Hi, so when I got my guinea pigs I wasn’t told the exact age of them but I was told they’re not “fully grown” yet.. so how can you tell how old they are if you’re not aware specifically. At a guess they might be going into “teenage” period but not sure.

Hi, it's difficult to age guinea pigs. If they're not fully grown, they are probably under a year or so old, though they can grow a bit after that. Fully grown piggies have thicker nails, and older piggies may have curled nails and can start to get a bit bonier. Other than that...it's hard to tell. When I got Bobby and Bailey I was told they were about 6 months, but both have one or two curled nails and their hip bones are a bit more prominent, so I reckon they're quite a lot older than that. My other boys are about 15/16 months now, and they just LOOK younger, and still have quite little nails. They are much more excitable and energetic too. Bobby and Bailey don't do as many zoomies and popcorns. I hope this helps a bit.

Yeah, I think they’re under a year / young as my more vocal one (roan black and white) wheeks a lot and is very energetic and popcorns a bit more and he’s very inquisitive compared to the other, but I think the other boar is just a reserved young one. Either way, they’re happy and healthy boys so that’s all that matters to me. I’m going to take them to the vets to ask them to show me how to clip their nails as I’m afraid to do so yet when the time comes.

So cute! If I had to guess I'd say between 5-7 months. Still can't accurately say, but they have that gangly look of a younger pig and from the picture they don't appear to be fully grown either

I agree, they look very young. The Brown one especially still has that ' not quite grown into his head' look that makes baby piggies so cute! They are gorgeous x
