Hello it’s Cody again . Pancakes is about 7-8 months old .
Pancakes trauma wound is healing up nicely .
But now my sweet boy is acting odd all of a sudden .
As of last night , we usually seperate the two during feeding time, pancakes is terrified . Usually pancakes is sweet and runs right up to you . As of last night he will not come out of his hut . If I try to lure him out with snacks he runs out full force and runs his head into the cage and goes nuts .
I tried to pick him up and he just won’t stop going nuts .
This has never happened . His brother is fine . No problems with him and they’ve been in the same cage for 3 months and only one scuffle .
Any advice

He is probably a little scared after all that has gone on. Is pancakes the piggy on antibiotics at home? If so that can make them nervous as they often don't like receiving them

It sounds like pancake has been pretty scared by what’s happened,
It may take him some time to get back to his usual self and sometimes trauma can change the way a piggies behaves the same way it can for humans,

I’ve had a deeply, deeply traumatised Piggie on my hands in the past.
She would also freak out and attack anyone and everything, but it was only a learn behaviour, she realised if she acted this way, she got what she wanted. To be left alone.

She wasn’t pleasant to hold so we weren’t rushing to hold her all the time. She made nail trimming such an unpleasant experience that she sometimes stopped us finishing, which got her own way and she didn’t enjoy it either.

In the end she needed not only time to calm down and recover from the experience but to be treated like a new pig,
We had to make sure she had a dark place to hide all of her own, and make sure she wasn’t spooked by us, we talked gently to her when we entered the room and let her develop that trust again.

I won’t lie it took years for me to get her back to a normal Piggie, and nearly a year of introductions to get her to accept another Guinea Pig. Which I know sounds like a worse case scenario. Which it is. And this isn’t a usual situation, she had been deeply traumatised.
But the principle is the same, Pancake might need time to recover emotionally from what has happened. He has been scared and sounds like he may be reacting to that, as for him he may not realise the threat is gone. And that his behaviour is an extreme reaction to the situation at hand now.
You might need to give him time and help him realise that he doesn’t need to protect himself like that anymore. That he is safe and there isn’t a threat anymore. Poor Piggies are hardwired to look for the danger and sometimes they can mistake a normal situation for a dangerous one from previous experiences.

Thank you . My wife and I feel like we’re those people that take our pets to the vet for every little thing but better safe then sorry right .
It’s been a few days and pancakes seems to start to come out a little more . He is eating again and will come out for his snack . But he is still not his normal self .
The vet said he might be scared and nervous like you all did .
I agree and think the trauma may have been too much for him. I feel bad leaving them alone while we both go to work 😢but I believe he will be ok with time .

I think it is far better to take your piggy to the vet for the smallest things than leave it too late - you sound like the best kind of pet owners! I hope all is okay and he gets back to his normal self in time :)
