Hi all ,

Was just wondering what changes people notice in their older piggies' behaviour/bodies.

I've noticed Sevi's body shape has changed- her bum has expanded bless her. (She's not lost weight or anything so please don't worry!) She's also become a lot more placid. I've noticed recently her fur around her eyes is slightly thinner than it used to be, and that she's growing more random ginger hairs in the midst of the black ones.

Saying all of that, she just went mad in the garden popcorning around as though she were a baby, not two weeks off 4!

I love her soo much! :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

I've noticed that their shoulders became slightly raised,, so that they feel like a smooth dumbell (bad comparision) when you stroke them.

yes they defiantly have a look about them, and they mellow out completely, well mine all have first to the front of the queue for feeding and just much more calm, i have a 4 year old boy and i can hold him like a baby on his back and tickle his tummy and he goes to sleep, but if i was to do that to Burty who is 1 1/2 he would have a pink fit!

Yes, I think Sevi's shoulders have got a bit more prominent as she's got older.

I love her so much now she's older...but I worry so much about what will happen if she goes...

Aw I'm sure it'll be fine-ithas to happen sometime, and when it does, it'll be the right time for them. Besides, youre giving them the best lives possible. :) Thats the whole purpose of a guineas life-to be cuddled. So make sure they get lots of it. I'm sure thats not too much of a task :)

That would never be too much of a task, even if she did dribble cucumber bits all down my new hoodie this evening! :smitten:

My oldest guinea girl is nearly six. She has thinning hair, cataracts in both eyes and appears to be deaf. She is still always first in the queue for food though and as lively as all the others when out in the run. She does sleep alot more than the others. Quite often I catch so fast asleep I have to check she is still breathing! She has also mellowed as she has got older. She was always a very feisty girl but has calmed down alot.

I love it when they do that, and when the get a wet chin the colour of the food theyre eating! Strawberries are the funniest! Luckily my piggies let me mop them up :smitten:

Yep, Pookie is 5 and he definately sleeps alot more, he makes comfy little nests in his hay which look lovely but I do find myself checking him a lot too! he doesn't run about anymore just jumps out of his cage when I clean him out and then waits on his little platform I made him to help him down the step! he does a "tour" round the room stopping at the other two cages but then just comes back home and settles in to his nice clean cage! He has severe impaction as well which needs clearing daily, but he eats very well and is lively when he is awake! His squeak is alot croakier now too! But he's till my precious boy!

Aww thats so cute!

But do girls get impaction when theyre older or isit just boys?

Impaction is something that really worries me. All my boys are still very young so I've not experienced the joys of dealing with it yet. I know not all will suffer with it but I'm dreading it when any do. From what I have read about it, it doesn't seem like a very nice job!

When you see how grateful the piggy is when you've done it, you'll see its not that big a deal! Its smelly, but it really only takes a minute or two. Pookie and I have it off to a fine art now, including botty wipe and parsley treat after!
Its not put me off, I've 3 other boys (not impacted - all younger) and I'm getting another 2yr old boy tomorrow! s'ok don't be worried!

I actually prefer older piggies to babies and younger ones, older ones are calmer and you can ineract with them better babies are incredibly cute, but so fast and squittish!

I know what you mean-my nextdoor neighbours piggies were just running up and down my livng room and you should see how fast the youngest is! :D

I know! When my Golly was younger, hes nearly a year now, he used to charge around the room so fast I had to sit down in case we collided!
