Oh no! After lots of itching and me thinking it was lice I'm now positive it's mange mites. George and Gerry have got a V forming where their hair's thinner. :(
Xeno 450, Manuka and Neem Shampoo and CocoNeem Melt ordered. My purse is now over £100 lighter!
Going to be lots of baths!
Just wanted to see if people have found they need 2 applications of Xeno or more? I've ordered enough for 2 per pig (x 9)
The others are a bit itchy but no sign of hair loss at the moment so hopefully I've caught it early.

I'd xeno everyone... They tend to need 3 doses...
If your going to bath them aswell leave it atleast 48 hours between the xeno application and the bath so it's had time to work...
Disinfect the cage just after you have treated everyone and hot wash any bedding...
Mange mites is a pain in the butt but can bs controlled easily thank god...
Good luck...!
x

Thanks Clare I'll order some more Xeno, I'd only ordered enough for 2 doses.
Thankfully it's been a few years since I've had a piggy needing Xeno I just couldn't remember how many treatments I ended up doing.
I'm wishing I'd held off Piglet coming now as she's going to have to be treated as well, she's only been here a day! I was going to do introductions next weekend but I'm thinking grumpy pigs after a bath (depending on when everything arrives) might not be the best for them getting on!

Alternativly, bathing them together might shock them into being friends....
Just a though, and obviously ask others thoughts, but baths are often used for bonding. However i would imagine wait untill the sore/itchiness is gone first because that WOULD make them grumpy. :)

For future reference Easimec is much better it's cheaper one bottle is about £25 and it would treat everyone (three times per pig), it's also licensed for guinea pigs.

I buy mine from hyperdrug. x

You need an ivermectin product to treat for mites, not fungal baths! In order to to get rid of the mites, you need to treat at least 3-4 rounds spaced 10-14 days apart in order to most effectively catch emerging eggs.

Give a bath at the end of the whole treatment (but never within 48 hours of spot-on treatment) to get rid of the dead skin and promote the regrowth.

Damn wish I knew that last night, I've just spent £118 on Xeno from the Hay Experts. I've not heard of Easimec before, thankfully I've not had problems so not needed it.
At least I know for future, thanks Joanne. x

I was going to treat everyone with Xeno 450 (Ivermectin) on Thursday (it should be here then) and disinfect the correx and change the bedding then give them all a CocoNeem Melt and Manuka and Neem Shampoo treatment on Sunday then do the whole lot again 7 days later then repeat another 7 days later. Is that right or should I not bath until after the last of the 3 ivermectin?
