Okay so we have 2 guinea pigs Walter (7 months old) and Felix (2 months old) And we just adopted another one, Franklin who is about 3 YEARS old. We had Walter and Franklin meet and immediately they both started being dominant. Walter was biting so we took him out, which led me here. I really don’t wanna have to separate them but if I have to I will. What do I do?

Are Walter and Felix bonded and living together or was Franklin meant as a companion for one of them?
Or were you planning to put them as a trio? Boar trios are notoriously difficult and very very rarely work out. There are a couple of forum members with successfull boar herds but they require a LOT of space, seriously a lot to have any chance of working.

It is quite rare to have a trio of boars.you have two hormonal boars which is the most difficult stage to pair boars.you can put a grid down the cage/c and c cage.so that one piggie still has contact through the bars, but cannot inflict any injures on each other.in the guides at top of page,is a very useful guide on boars and fall outs.

Walter and Felix were already living together. And I was planning on making them a trio..

Okay. I’ll try that, thanks for the feedback.

I really would not advise it. You could run the risk of all 3 having to live separately. The safest thing to do would be either to have 2 cages of 2 boars (you still run the risk of a fallout when they reach the hormonal stage). Or place the loan boar in a separate cage next to the “bonded pair’ so he can still see them without risk of a brawl.

General rule of thumb is,

Sows: as many as you like.
Boars: pair of boars OR 1 neutered boar with 1 or more sows.

Thank you for the information. They’ll just have to be neighbors
