Hello everyone,

As I posted before, I just got 3 new piggies (they are 5 days old) and 2 guinea pigs about 1 year old.
Because this was a surprise birth and we just woke up with three new piggies I wanted to ask how to air the rom.
The smell was pretty annoying until now anyway, but now, it's really stinky.

We live in a flat, they stay in the room we do not sleep in but they are located under window. No, they don't stay in sun.
Outside the weather is around 0-1*C degrees in the night, and in the day, sometimes never higher than 4*C degrees. Anyway, today was 10*C.

How can we air the room so we can eliminate the stinky smell that hits you as you enter in the apartment?
Is it safe to let the window opened for about 1 hour? I repeat, they stay under the windows (if I open the farest window from them, they're about 2 meters away).
They have boxes as cages to hide in, so they won't really feel the cold so hard, I suppose.

How is it safe to air the room? What to do with them if we open the window? We let them to stay safe or we have to move them?
Maybe you can also giving me some cleaning tips, because after 3 days you can't see the pads on the floor anymore because of the mess.
I was thinking about a hand-vacuum cleaner for fast cleaning. But I don't want to scare them with the sound. It would lovely to get, again, your best answers!

Best regards.

You would not want the window open for that long and certainly not a window right above their cage - they will get too cold. Only open the window furthest away from them and only leave it open for 5 minutes in every hour or two.
That will give air but hopefully stop the room from becoming too cold. You cannot expose them to more than a 5 degree fluctuation in temperature particularly as they are tiny babies.

You should cover their cage with a blanket to stop the draughts from getting to them.

Regarding cleaning, you will need to spot clean their cage every day (once or twice a day). You can just sweep with a dustpan and brush.
You will need to replace any wet bedding daily and then change out the fleece (if that is what you are using) approximately every 3-5 days.

I use pee pads/bobble bath mats on top of fleeces. These get changed every day as does spot cleaning. I do this and don't have any smell.
