I am about to order some hay for the piggies buuuut...
Do they need both alfalfa AND timothy hay or just one?
Also.. What about meadow hay? I never give it to my pets but i've heard there's no goodness in it?

Which is best or should I give a mixture?

Adult pigs shouldn't have too much alfalfa as it is high in calcium. I use Ings hay from hay4pets. It's really nice hay and all the furries love it. They also have timothy hay occasionally. I find it too expensive to feed all the time. :)

I used the ings hay from hay 4 pets for a while however I now have to get hay from the shop due to working all hours but the ings hay is boooootiful. I have tried mine on timothy but they think its for pooing on not eating ... strange beasties! Good old meadow hay from the range is what I'm using now :-)

Alfalfa hay (which is not grass, but a legume; you may also know it as lucerne) is only recommended for pregnant and nursing mums and very young pups, and even then only as a top up to normal hay (about a handful per day). It is very rich in calcium and protein, which can cause long term problems in piggies that are no longer growing.

Timothy hay has the least calcium content and is easiest to process. Meadow (UK) or orchard (US) hay is perfectly fine to feed too. Mine have mostly the last; my local independent pet shop has some very nice first cut locally sourced hay and the piggies love it.

If you want to order hay via the internet, this place has got good hay: http://www.hayforpets.co.uk/

Ahh perfect ! Thank you for your responses I have got a load of spare meadow hay so i'm pleased I can use it :)
But i'm going to order from that website hay for pets and get some Ings hay and possible some alfalfa too :)
