Is it me or is this so hard to find online?! Does anyone know of websites I can buy it from? I only seem to be able to get it in small quantities.

Alfalfa hay is only suitable for young pigs up to 9 months and pregnant/lactating females. It's high calcium content makes it unsuitable for adult pigs as it can add to the chance of bladder stones/crystals. Even when fed to those pigs that require extra calcium it is only a handful added to their daily hay, not replacing it so little is needed.

It is also known as Lucerne hay so can be sold under that name.

That's why I want it as my boys are only 11 weeks old. I'll search under lucerne too, thanks x

I have but they are awaiting stock in bigger lots sonill just have to order a smaller quantity

are you planning on mixing it into their regular feed? just asking as it's quite bitty and dusty, my lot didn't really like it that much, they prefer readigrass.

Do you have a Pet's Corner near you? They are usually based in garden centres. Last time I went to one they sold alfalfa hay although I can't remember size/ price.

No I plan on just sticking in a handful a day into their hay rack. I did get a sample of readigrass and they seem to like it too

The awful P@H do it normally - I sent my OH to buy some when my boar was first poorly in May as he was refusing to eat anything (I won't go in there)
Think it was around £8 for a smallish bag but use sparingly as Suzygpr says.

Can't say I do but I'll definitely look into it, thanks

I think you'll find that something like Dengie Alfa-A will fall through the hay rack...it might have just been the bag I had, but none of the strands were longer than an inch and it was mostly just 'bits'

Alfalfa is also known as 'lucerne'. You may be able to find it under that name.

After all that I found alfalfa hay locally at over £9 for 680g! Which I thought was v. Expensive! Anyway I got it and they won't even go near it! What can I give my 3 month old boys instead?
