DM030819

Hi all!

Just wanted to warn anyone with hay allergies to stay away from the 11kg (big box) of Alfalfa King Timothy hay from The Hay Experts (and probably other sites).

I don't really suffer with hay allergies but I've been sneezing a lot since getting a box on Wednesday. And my hands are insanely itchy.

I've used it many times before without issue so just wanted to warn everyone else.

I had the same with one of the really big bags of Oxbow Timothy Hay a couple of years ago.
I usually get the big pillow sized bags (1.2kg?), but decided to save money by getting one of the really big bags. It started affecting my nose the moment I opened it, and handling it later to feed the pigs made me feel horribly wheezy, like asthma almost. I ended up giving the bag away - I can put up with mild hayfever, but that was too much. I wondered if the cheaper big bags come from a farm where they have used chemical sprays, or suffered drift from a farm that does. Oxbow and Alfalfa King must buy in hay from a lot of farms, so I guess it's statistically likely that some will have problems with chemical sprays.

Oh dear :( Thanks for the warning. Hay makes me itch like mad so I have to be careful.

I bought this hay again as I’m worried the hay I used before may have given my pigs a stubborn case of mites. I started sneezing and my chest felt tight and wheezy straight away. I’m in a bit of a dilemma now. I’ve seen dust free hay mentioned a few times so I’m tempted to try them. @sport_billy I’ve seen you mention dust free hay, have you had any problems with it? Mites, etc?

really pleased with dustfreehay the soft hay is great, not tried timothy from there yet.
