Is it ok for their pellets to have alfalfa meal in it? I know too much alfalfa hay can hurt them. But what about alfalfa meal? Should I switch their food? One of my boars seem fine but the other is having issues going to the bathroom. I'm just wondering, could the alfalfa meal have anything to do with it?

If you can get timothy based pellets instead of alfalfa based ones, that would be better.

Here is more advice on what/how much and how often to feed things. The veg cited under daily allowed veg can also be used for fairly well balanced low calcium diet. You can find more tips on what to look out for in our low calcium diet thread.

Hi, if one of your piggies is having a problem with toileting, make sure they eat plenty of hay each day as too many pellets in the diet can slow the motility of the stomach down & cause a build up of gas.

They are only supposed to have an egg cup full each a day.I don't feed mine pellets as was getting lots of white patches on my fleece. They have three to four types of veg a day and meadow, Timothy and orchard hay every day. They seem to be doing well on it

Look for a pellet made with timothy hay instead of alfalfa. It is better for them once they are done growing for the pellet to be timothy rather than alfalfa.

Well I give them a scoop full of pellets every morning. Their bowl is pretty tiny so I figure half of that bowl for each piggy would be fine. The bowl is about the size of a Syrian hamster (best way i can describe it) They also have tons of timothy hay 24/7 and I feed them a mini salad mix every other day around 5pm. In the salad I use romaine lettuce, cabbage, broccoli, green pepper, celery, carrots, and a slice of apple. Is that good enough?

Apple should be occassional as lots of sugar and can give them mouth sores I think.Carrots is an occassional as well.
