New Born Pup
My guinea pig Alfie sadly passed away on Sunday at around 8:30am. He was diagnosed with a bladder stone about three weeks ago by a loval vet. By the time we found a cavvy savvy vet about a week and a half had passed. He was given medication to start moving his guts and the next day he was operated on.
The operation went smoothly and he came home that evening with antibiotics and pain killers. We were told to syringe feed him but he was eating very well on his own, which was shocking as I had been syringe feeding him for a week prior due to the antibiotics killing his apetite.
Everything went alright until Wednesday morning came around last week. My lethargic little piggie sat in his hidey. He didn’t want to eat and his guts were on the low again, eventhough he was still on his medication. Syringe feeding him to get his guts moving again, during the day and the night. Thursday he was at the vets for his post surgery check up. His wound was healing fine but he just wasn’t eating. The vet said it may be due to the antibiotics so he prescribed a different one and more medication.
We came home and I syringe fed him and gave his medication until things started going downhill on Friday night when he started to refuse to eat and drink. By Saturday we couldn’t get anything into him. Sunday morning I was stroking him and telling him I loved him and he fell asleep.
Alfie was a real little character. He was a friendly giant both to us and his wives. He was moody too, tugging at the fleece to tell us he wasn’t happy, like when we were going to the vet. But he always had plenty to say and a sweet personailty. We won’t forget his round little face and those cute piggie feet as he waited for his dinner.
It’s difficult to lose anyone we love but it makes me so grateful to the Person who created Alfie and my other two little piggies the way they are. Full of life, apetite and personality. They were created for us to enjoy them and we sure do when they popcorn from happiness, wheek for the bag rustling and make their “bloot bloot” noise after a cage clean.
Eventhough I don’t believe Alfie lives on anywhere, I am glad he’s no longer in pain.
