A month or so ago Alice came down with URI, which seemed to clear up with a course of Baytril. However the symptoms have come back...

her breathing sounds really laboured. Vet had a good look at her, listened to her chest, said it didn't sound like it was in her chest. The vet then said she could have an allergy (possibly to hay)

She is on baytril again, and I'm seeing what happens if I don't keep her on hay. However she is by herself now inside, as the others live outside in hutches with hay. I can't afford to buy any other bedding. I don't really know what to do if Alice does have a hay allergy, and how do I know if she does or not?

She's really miserable being by herself aswell :(

Oh bless her. I hope she gets better soon. Perhaps someone on here will have some ideas on what to try.

I think some people invest in vetbed as you can just keep washing it so it would only be a one off expense. Or maybe you could keep her on old towels and just keep washing them and just put small amounts of hay in a rack that she can eat? Once she's better, perhaps she can go on the vetbed/towels with her friends outside.

I'm sure someone else on here will have some good ideas soon! Sending big get well vibes to Alice x

problem is I'm not in charge of the washing machine, I live at home with my parents and washing bedding for the pigs isn't really an option :( the other four girls are fine with hay.

I bought some dust free bedding for Alice just for now, buts its rather expensive!

Is she wheezing? In your old thread you said she had laboured breathing. My piggie has had a URI going on for a while now. He is wheezing when he squeaks. What is she eating instead of hay?

I can understand you not being able to use the washing machine but unless you switch to fleece or vetbed your little one may not improve.:(

I got a sort of papery bedding that said on the packet its hypoallergenic, so she's on that for now just to see if it helps and untill I come up with a more permanent option, so she has no hay in her bedding at the moment, only a little in a hay rack, and I'm feeding her fresh gass often.
