Hi all. Hope someone can help.

As some of you might know, I have 2 lone guinea pigs at the moment. I have Maisy who is about 4 and a half months old and she is just gorgeous (her sister Missy died after I had, had them for 5 weeks. The vet suspected septicaemia :...). I adopted Buddy last week. He is 6-7 months old and quite a handful lol. When I adopted him (from P@H), they said he should be a lone pig although they couldnt give me a reason why?! They said he was handed into them because the previous owner didnt have enough room for him - poor excuse if you ask me but hey.

Their cages are next to each other and it is quite obvious that Buddy would like to be introduced to Maisy ! I would love them to live together so they both have company but I dont want to put Buddy through the pain of being neutered if they arent going to get on.

I think it would be unfair for me to try and bond them but then have to seperate them back into their own cages until he is neutered (if they get on?!).

All advice appreciated.

Many thanks.

It would be unfair to just let them have supervised playdates, Nikki. With piggies, it should be all or nothing if you are going to introduce them, and you can't run the risk of putting two unneutered, opposite-sex piggies together - even if supervised, it's not safe. Let them socialise through the bars for now - a great pre-introductory step - and see if you can find a competent vet who you are comfortable with to get Buddy neutered. :)
