I have had my pigs for about 3 weeks now, but shortly after getting them I developed a nasty cold, was 100% a cold I was very sick, so anyway now I have sort of recovered, but still have a lingering cough and stuffy nose at times, it seems to get a little worse when I go near the piggies cage, or clean them out, but not unbearable or uncomfortable just noticeable, I dont get itchy eyes, or swelling of anything, Just a stuffy nose and tingling, I am confused yet to if its an allergy, because my cold is still lingering, but my symptoms dont go away when I leave the piggies they stay, so I'm thinking maybe it's just the cold? I also have fresh washed clothes on so not the same as when I'm around them, I'm really hoping I'm not as I'm so in love with them and dont want to part, or maybe even a little hayfever? hmm anyone had anything similar?

Have you checked whether you have got hay fever and tried a mild over the counter anti-histamine?

that's what I was thinking as I'm worse some days than other, I think ill go have a word with a pharmacist :)

Go and check it over with a doctor....if you do have an allergy try and get a friend or family to play with them but you can feed and stuff.
It shouldn’t be a strong allergy so don’t worry 😉

It's possible to be allergic to guinea pigs, just like any other animal. It's also possible to be allergic to things around the guinea pigs, such as hay or bedding. I would try to get dust-free products as much as possible. What kind of bedding are you using? A lot of people (myself included) are allergic to wood animal bedding, so if they are on any kind of wood shaving you might try changing to paper or fleece. Additionally, it could just be the remnants of a cold or hay fever. Maybe try an antihistamine to get things under control and then see what happens when you stop it. It can be hard to determine allergy sources (mine are awful right now, but I'm allergic to tree pollen so it's nothing in the house, it's in the air outside.)

Lucky you just being allergic to tree pollen. I am allergic to everything from dust mites to mould spores and everything in between! I get awful hayfever that not even acupuncture can cure and acupuncture cured me from horrendous migraines for 18 months or more.

Ugh... I hear you. I'm also seriously allergic to dust, to the point that I will develop hive/blisters on the whites of my eyeballs. It's really gross. Mould too (or at least I have bad attacks in the fall when the leaves are in the group- I haven't actually been allergy tested since early childhood, but I presume that's mould related. Allergies are brutal, I totally feel for you there!

Thanks! Never had blisters on the whites of my eyeballs @Freela that sounds horrendous!

It's really freaky looking... the first time it happened I went to the hospital because I was irrationally convinced my eyeball would pop! LOL! It's basically a hive forming on the sclera (white part) of the eye. I get it if I touch dust and then rub my eyes. I have made that mistake a few times and now predose myself with Benadryl if I am going to be anywhere dusty!
