Allergic to guinea pigs?

Hi folks!

I am not really happy to say that I am showing more and more symptoms of allergies when handling my cavies - heavy sneezing, runny nose and all of that stuff. Nothing severe, but nothing so pleasant either. I have concluded the research on the topic on the Allergic to guinea pigs? page, which I hope will help people deal with the issue.

How about you, is anyone else having similar difficulties?

We have 6 piggies, my daughter is allergic to just 1. Maisie is an aby x, we think the allergy is to do with her fur. She uses anti-histamines, and nasal sprays to relieve the symptoms also when handling she wears long sleeved tops.
 
I'm allergic to them all I think - I get so itchy and my eyes are burning and itchy. My nose also runs.. I have eye drops and antihistamines :)

Also when I have an allergic reaction my tattoo comes up in lumps and they are itchy which is bizzare :S
 
I am also allergic to my piggies. I take an antihistamine everyday which helps.
 
Is it the piggies or the hay? We all have hayfever to varying degrees, I dont have any problems with the herd (I think mine is tree pollen) but my OH comes up in lumps where the piggies have had their paws but not while stroking.

The best thing is to have a proper allergy test, we found out my mother in law is allergic to rubber and perfume. Check out how many products have perfume or parfum in them.
 
I have asthma and get skin rashes.

The doctors say I am allergic to all animal dander. Kinda crazy seen as I am a dog groomer. The worst for me is Chocolate labradors. They make me itch like crazy! :{

I could not imagine being without animals (especcially piggies). And I am yet to find something else that I am good at! ;)
 
hmhm it seems to me that I should commit to some allergy testing, to determine is it about hay, bedding or indeed about guinea pigs as I suspect. Thank you all for answering!
