so, I knew that my OH was allergic to pets although he was good with Rene and Bertie (RIP) who were both short-haired smooths.
Finlay is part coronet and Frankkie is rex and since we've had those 2, his asthma has been worse but he keeps away so I don't mind so much. It seems he can handle Fin but Frank really sets him off.
Today, as per usual, Oliver demanded a piggie cuddle. I got Frankkie out, and Oliver gave him kisses. A few minutes kater I noticed that he had nettle rash where he'd kissed my piggle... :(
What am I to do? I can't stand the thought of Oliver being made ill by my choice to keep a pet but poor Frankkie's done nothing wrong. He didn't choose to have a curly wuzzy coat... HELP.
 
oh nooooo, how upsetting, but I've heard that loads of people are allergic to touching Rex's, could you just let him stroke Finlay instead?
 
yes, I suppose that's one solution' I just feel sorry for Frankkie, poor baby, he's not had it easy... I'm also oconverned about possible asthma for Oliver... My OH gets so ill sometimes!
 
I wouldn't worry about Oliver and Asthma until/if he starts showing symptoms as people develop it at various stages of life, and not everyone's is triggered by animal hair either, Kobie has an inhaler as seems to suffer badly with his chest at times (they don't diagnose asthma until they're two) but has never started wheezing etc around the piggies.

One of my piggies, funnily enough my rex, Roy, really doesn't seem comfortable with the kids, he just doesn't relax at all if they hold/stroke him so they know that they don't really get to stroke him, Fitz on the other hand is a total pet, as is Charlie, so if they want a piggy cuddle I just make sure it's one of those boys, as they're the most comfortable, then Roy and Simba (because he's still quite young and a bit skittish) get more of a fuss when the kids are in bed and it's quieter and just me.
 
I get this too ever since I had my daughter. If either of my pigs touch my skin except on my hands I break out in hives. Id keep an eye out, don't worry too much, just limit handling. Xx
 
aaw dont worry my boyfriend kept getting allergic reactions his eyes would swell up and go blood shot and water when he went near the pigs. We got some spray to spray on them though and that helped, you spray it through their coat x
 
Aww sounds like you have your piggie for adult cuddles then he has his piggie for cuddles to :) I have 8 piggies and my boy Milo is the only one I let my son cuddle the rest are just to skittie they dont even like my cuddles lol but Milo is fine to sit with my little boy with me there and tom knows he only get to cuddle milo as milo is "his piggie"

my hubby gets asthma and when the piggies first came boy did he suffer i am going to sound awfull here and would not do this to the kids but i told him "it could not be the piggies noone is allergic to piggies its not possible" lol and within a week he was feeling better.
 
awww when i had my rex pepper i was allergic to him for about the first 3 years i had him, and i had to dose up on piriton and antihistamine cream when i was near him, then for some reason it just kind of stopped and luckily when peps had his bladder stone and needed lots of love and attention and close contact, i was fine.
