Hi everyone, I've had a long break from piggies but now I'm looking into getting a couple to be indoor pigs.
My brother is allergic to horses and cats, and I think he's probably going to be allergic to guinea pigs! (I used to keep mine in a shed before so he didn't really go near them.)
I just wondered if anyone with the same allergies could recommend a breed that he might not be allergic to? Wondering whether it's best to go for short or long haired? (I have had long hair pigs before so I'm experienced with the grooming).

is there nowhere you could try him out with them without committing?

I am allergic to horses, cats, rabbits and furry piggies. I own 2 skinny pigs and they still set me off sometimes. Alot of people advertising them say : great for allergy suffers: but as @piggyfan said it can be their urine. Also its the oil these animals secrete so even with no fur one can be allergic.I take antihistamine twice a day and this seems to keep it under control.Using dust extracted hay also helps and using white vinegar and lemon to clean out their litter trays. :)

IMHO... I'm more allergic to Rambo because she's a long haired... I get rashes pop out if she's been against my skin. Short hair not so do get the odd sneeze but no rash... Anti histermine all the way!

I have a cat and he is semi-long haired and if I touch him then rub my eyes I get itchy eyes and sneeze so now I just wash my hands after I've touched him and I'm fine. I'm the same with guinea pigs and rabbits and hamsters. I find the hay is the worst for my asthma and allergies. I've never tried anti histamines so I'll try that too
