Allergy?

Weirdly, I've started coming up in hives on my arm when I handle my boar. I also have 2 sows and don't get anything when I hold them.
Has this ever happened to anyone else?

It isn't a problem to me as they go down within an hour or so of putting him away.

I get hives on my arms sometimes when I'm feeding large quantities of hay, they go away after half an hour so I have never really worried about it, I quite often have small allergic reactions to animals too but 'what doesnt kill you makes you stronger'.
If it starts to get worse or is worrying you then your doctor can run tests to see if it is an allergy.

PS I assume that you have checked him for unwanted guests?

Well I've never noticed anything, no bald patches and he doesn't itch.
Is there another way to check for mites etc?

Allergies to guinea pigs usually come from allergens in the pee.

Perhaps you can keep a surface between your arms and your boy? I used to get hives within about a week whenever I had to share my bedroom with a guinea pig for some reason, but that is gone now that I am an adult. Usually, a dose of my hayfever meds took care of it.

Just a thought have you checked his nails, if they are sharp they could be slightly scratching your skin.

They are sharp. Could that be it? He is on either megazorb or fleece, should I put his outdoor run on the patio now and then?

I get a rash on my neck when Pickles lies there (she's odd, I know!) A bit of E45 cream usually does the trick if it's feeling a bit itchy.
