Went out about half an hour ago to check on the piggys and to top up all the hay and pop in the snugglesafes etc - so it is nice and warm for tonight. Had to open up a new bag of meadow hay and immediatly the smell hit me and it was disgusting. I have no idea what has happened to it but there was no chance it was going in with the piggys. Opened another bag and it was the same. Both bags were stored correctly - there was no way they could have got damp from being in the shed so I can only assume the hay was damp when packed and has now gone a bit... yuck....
Usually this hay is great so I think it is just an off batch but I had a dilemma as that was my last 2 bags. No hay for tonight :o. Part of me was like, they'll be OK as they had all fresh hay and bedding done this morning but then I kept thinking that I couldn't take the risk so.....
Quickly went down to our large 24hour Asda Walmart and picked up a bag of the Wagg meadow hay as a stop gap until I can get to my usual pet store tomorrow. Have to say - the Wagg hay is alright and most importantly the piggys loved it. Were popcorning like mad.
All I can say is that for the 1st time ever I was very glad that Asda are open 24/7 ;D
Got a few strange looks mind you as I literally flew into Asda grabbed the hay and straight out again
