I bought Aloe Vera gel from organic shop to clean my Guinea pigs inside glands as it would get backed up & dirty which this would happen a few times a week but my question is, is Aloe Vera gel toxic that if it is ingested that it can kill the Guinea pig? That he licked it from his bum?. It was easier to use gel at the time to properly clean his glands than it was with water. I can't help but think maybe he died because of this?.
I have been using it for a long time and maybe because it went in his mouth alot that over time it would make him poorly?. I never thought Aloe Vera gel as toxic that's why I never thought anything of it until now. I really hope not. I have 3 Guinea pigs left and if they need cleaning then I need to know if Aloe Vera gel is dangerous. To think that I could of poisoned my little boy is heartbreaking.

A lot of sites advise that 100% alcohol/colour free organic aloe vera gel is safe for guinea pig use. Other sites advise that although the plant is not poisonous, it can be an irritant. Just make sure you rinse well after use and you should be ok. 👍

I've been reading on internet that Aloe Vera is toxic that it can make the Guinea pig ill. I didn't wash him. I used the Aloe Vera gel with ear cotton buds to clean his inside glands as he would have runny poo inside it but his poo was normal but I felt this needed cleaning as was worried it would get smelly which sometimes it did and might attract flies but I didn't wash his inside glands out with water though as it's not easy but I did use wipe to clean the aloe Vera off but I feel awful because I used baby wipes which I realise now that it's toxic but I'm just hoping this didn't kill him if he happen to lick stuff off his glands.

You needn't worry, it's not toxic, it might be worthwhile investing in a couple of cheap face flannels which you can run under clean warm water for wiping piggy bums once you've finished cleaning them. 👍

Thankyou for replying. This puts my mind at rest.
