I feel like I'm always bloody on the H&I section asking for advice.

Mangaged to get the pigs completely sorted and no problems eccept for over a week stanleys stomach has been particularly gurgly and rumbling awful loudly.

He's eating fine, peeing fine (his pee does dry with a ring of orange around it but i was told this is normal and just oxidated), pooping fine (were normal sized but tears drop shaped at the ends yesterday so i gave him cucumber incase he was a little dehydrated)

I read that in rare occassions a GP can develop a hernia up to 6 months post neuter which can cause stomach gurgling, though i cant see or feel any unusual lumps or bumps on his once glorious dangleberries which apparently would be evident. All seems well in that area.

Nothing out of the normal. I can't feel any bloating and a tap doesn't sound hollow.

Any ideas, or am i being a little paranoid?

Thanks guys, x

You'd notice a hernia as a soft swelling on the belly side next to the genitalia. Thankfully, hernias are pretty rare! His tummy sounds slightly out of kilter, so I would rather offer him syringed water instead of feeding lots of watery veg. Has he had much grass lately?

I can feel something like a tight tendon on the belly side right in the middle above the testicles? is that normal? Not no lumps or anything though.
I'll give him some water just now.
He hasn't had any grass for weeks and weeks because I put weed killer down. I could go get some from the field down the road if it would help?

I was asking as too much grass can cause a gurgly tummy. I would rather up the fibre than the fresh food. ;)

If in doubt, please weigh him daily and have that band investigated. Without feeling and seeing him ourselves, we cannot tell you whether it is something to worry about or not.

@Wiebke Ahh ok, I don't feed them grass often at all because every single cat in Glasgow likes to hang out in my back garden peeing, pooing and leaving dead birds on my grass as gifts for feeding them. I've turned into a crazy cat lady and none of them are mine

I will, I'll keep an eye. I'll try giving him some fibreplex for a couple of days, It's such a fight trying to get that stuff into him :td:

Thanks Wiebke.

Thanks Wiebke.

You could flavour it with a very little juiced favourite veg or mix it up with mushed pellets. ;)

@Wiebke His stomach is still gurgling really loudly. He was on a course of antibiotics for a UTI which i finished last wednesday. I just dipsticked his urine today and he has large amounts of blood in it still. Though it's not visible anymore, I couldn't do the dipsticks sooner because i had to order them. I think this is whats causing the gurgling? I got him a concious Xray, which ruled out bladder stones. Was the course not long enough? It was a 7 day course of baytril 0.24ml twice daily. He weighs 1,157g.

The course was too short and underdosed. About 0.4 ml twice daily would be appropriate for a UTI. Many general vets understimate the fast metabolism in guinea pigs and scale the dose down from cats. they are also not aware that UTI can be very tenacious. I would consider asking your vet for a 2-3 weeks course of septrin (about 0.5 ml twice daily for 2-3 weeks).

I would also consider asking for a conscious or only lightly sedated x-ray to see whether there are additionally bladder stone and/or gassing issues.

Sorry, I have one more question. Can he pass on a uti to Luna? She must be in season because they've been at it all morning and I'm worried he's gunna infect her bits?

She's awful on antibiotics and has ended up having bloat the day after she finishes the course the past twice.

Xx
