Alpaca grooming advice

I was just wondering what the best comb or brush to use for an alpaca coat would be? My Sweeney HATES being groomed, so wanted to check and see if there was a better option than the comb I was currently using (one of those double sided small pet ones). I saw someone mention metal combs can be harsh and tug at them more, so ordered a wooden baby comb and brush set. Any advice gratefully received!

I use an afro comb... i try to work in sections too.
I don't saturate the hair, I spritz with a shampoo spray and pat dry.
On her underside I use pet wipes or cotton wool and warm water for bottoms, scent glands and tangles. I trim the hair round the bum too, and the feathers.

I'm sorry I can't advise on brushes combs but please can I see a picture of your piggie. I googled alpaca guinea pig to try to see some pigtures but I got all sorts of not alpacas to look at!

Allguineapigs has a photo of an alpaca on their guinea pigs guide. I'm not linking it, for various reasons, but it'll come up in a Google search.

I found a 'human' brush like this worked really well with my Sheepy the alpaca. After a while I just trimmed his hair fairly short to save having to hack or chop out knots!
Looked huge compared to his pal Reggie!

Old pics of pics so not the best quality! :)
Quick, pics of Sweeney needed :D

Aah they're gorgeous! All that hair! Haven't had to do much piggy hairdressing for years now as my current pair are smooth haired but was a daily thing when had my fluffy boy! :)

I'll have a look at afro combs, thanks! Willing to try anything to make the experience any less stressful for the poor wee sausage. At the moment I just need to slightly touch him with the comb and he goes beserk. I'm also giving him a wee trim in the problem areas to see if it helps any.

I've uploaded a few pictures recently of him and his brother. If you search for Sweeney the posts should pop up :)

Thanks, I'll check out brushes like that! I'll take a new picture of him shortly but if you search his name you should find some I uploaded recently :)

When I do mine, I get the "silent treatment" for a day...
But bring home a rustly bag of titbits from the veg man and all it forgotten! Lol

Haha. He will sit on me afterwards and have a wee treat, so he doesn't COMPLETELY hate me. Still paranoid it'll affect our relationship though.
