Your piggies probably didn't get mites from their hay, but you're best to try to get as quality a hay as you can find. Hay is 100% essential for piggies, so I'd recommend you shop around for a good one. Often the sort of hay you get direct from a farm is better than what is found in pet shops (cheaper too).

If you are UK-based, you could try the hay sold here, which is very high quality:

Another option is Oxbow timothy hay, although it is fairly expensive.

Oxbow is definitely cheaper when you bulk buy. I just bought 22kg of Oxbow Orchard Grass for £64 - actually a lot cheaper than a lot of other hays available to me.

Yes, that's what I do too. Dust free hay (in the large bales) still works out cheaper, but my piggies adore Oxbow.

mine are getting ready grass and pampurred pets fab hay they love it even my fussy lionhead bun :))

I also get my big bulk of hay from that pet superstore. But mine doesn't cost that much, i think i have to pay £4.99, it used to be less but its gone up

Mine loves hay cookies! they are hay pressed into a cookie shape and go down a treat. You can get them from pets at home.

The only thing with feeding compressed hay (hay cookies, hay cakes, hay cubes etc.) is that it tends to be much finer hay, often in very short strands. I do doubt how effective they are on dental wear, given that the long strands of hay are so good for piggies teeth and give such a good workout for the molars. The hay cakes/cookies I suspect would be better for the incisors, but not so useful for molars.
