Hello,

After a very long trial and error process, I have finally discovered that it's peppers that are giving Angus soft poops. So I have cut them out altogether.

Are there any alternative vitamin C rich veggies or fruit that can be fed daily? They get a small amount of Burgess excel pellets daily, but I just want to be sure that they are getting enough Vitamin C.

Thanks!

Kale is very high in vit C. Dark green leafy veg is really good.

kale is rich of vit C, but of oxalates, too, dangerous for kidneys...
If I were you I would not worry at all and I would give the piggie the exact amount of supplement of vit C. I also use it for my piggies although they eat bell peppers every day. My amount is little, only 2 drops, which is 12mg a day (when the recommended dose is 20-40/kg a day).
Also fresh grass is rich of vit C.
The vit C contained in pellets may decrease with time, light, air... I would not trust that vit C.
I use the drops for newborns, diluited in few drops of water and given by syringe. Piggies love its taste and I don't have to worry of anything else...
Also the vegs lose almost all their vit C, after some days from the harvest, or after being stored into the fridge. Here all the vets suggest a little supplement (the one for humans) for being on the safe side.
Fruit is rich of sugars, too bad for piggies...

Is it every colour of pepper that does it? I had a pig that became bloated whenever he had green pepper but was fine on all of the others.

Try not to worry too much about Vit C, he'll be getting plenty in his other veg.

I give them kale fortnightly, worried about too much calcium as there was white spots on the fleece when they were getting too much. Complicated peegs haha!

I will look into a supplement, thank you! :)

Yeah all peppers, which is a shame because when he had them he LOVED them and would scoff them down in record time lol. I thought he was maybe unwell at first but took him to the vet and he was fine, so I just tested out different veg and everytime he had peppers it would be all soft and would smush if he stood on it and when cleaning - plus it absolutely stank :vom: it's totally fine now that the peppers have been removed though!

if you decide for a supplement, I use Cebion drops which has a good taste and is not effervescent. In UK you have a bottle bigger than here (and cheaper). But in UK you have also different drops for children. Be only sure to buy a product sugar free and with only vit C (not other vitamins) and declaring the exact amount of vit C contained in each drop. Cebion has 6mg each drop. I mix 3 drops of water with 2 drops of Cebion and using a syringe for insuline I give it to each piggie. If your piggie learns to eat good vegs, it does not matter... there is no risk of an excess with 2 drops. And if you change your mind, you can always use Cebion for yourself... vit C helps us to absorb the iron contained in food (we women sometimes have low level of iron...)
