we recently adopted 2 guniea pigs and my daughter seems to be allergic to the timothy hay... like full on hives and swollen hands. Are there any alternative for daily hay? I've seen that oat hay is not a good daily substitute.... and obviously know alfalfa is just for a treat. What alternatives might there be to timothy hay?

Any grass hay is fine for them to have

Alfalfa does not need to feature in their diet at all. It’s only really given to pregnant/nursing sows and very young babies

Timothy is the lowest Hay in calcium but my pigs will eat anything lol.Meadow Hay is one I use a lot. Does your daughter handle the Hay or just have to be near it to get a reaction?

I think it's the actual handling of the hay or touching it to her skin that produces the reaction.
thanks for the info.

I would try another hay regardless of whether it’s when she touches it. For now see if antihistamines will help.
