Am I bad?

I love guinea pigs, all of them in all shapes and sizes...and we take them in regardless of how they look etc BUT

I have always wanted a rex sow, always but somehow have never got one...we have teddys whic the OH says is the same, but its not...and i love them to bits but i still dream of my brown rex sow :(

Is it bad for me to look into getting one :-\ ?

I know if i get one I am taking up a place that could be filled by a rescue, on the other hand, like i say ive always wanted one ::)...i have never seen any come to me or others that ive seen as a rescue that i could adopt so I'm in a bit of a mess :-\

What would you do? :-\
 
I know that everyone would not see this as good, but you could go onto a breeders forum and rescue a retire rex sow, i know some breeders move them on as soon as they cannot breed from them again, will keep my ear to the ground for you if you would like? but will only except a sow if she is free shows a good will guesture from the breeder wouldn't you say?


But no you are not bad, i have a grey rex called cloud who i think looks like ratty from Wind in the willows ;D
 
That would be fantastic if you could keep an ear open/eye out ;D

i just dont like the idea of buying from a breeder after all ive learnt about just how many piggies ive seen and there are that are so poorly treated and i KNOW we could help! ::) damn concience! ;D

We have a silver agouti that looks like a beaver ;D and she had a random patch of white which is luurely!
 
Smiler you are doing a wonderful job and I think that if you want this brown Rex sow go and find her. I know you will feel bad and that many people will be kind of against you purchasing one or whatever but after seeing and dealing with guineas in such awful states you deserve some happiness and if this guinea will bring some happiness into your life, go and find her. You deserve a reward for all your hard work, time and expense. Obviously if you could rehome or rescue one it would be better but if you find her get her. :)
 
Aww you are so sweet, thats such a nice thing to say! :)

i am going to wait a few more weeks, try and be patient, make sure the couple of piggies we have to rehome get potential new homes and gracey continues getting better and then i'll see where we're at then....i hate being responsible sometimes! ;D If in the meantime i find her as a rescue then fair enough, but i can wait i guess! :)
 
I will keep having a look round for a rescue or one that needs to be rehomed for you and keep my ears open as well. :)

I had an agoute rex the colour your describing and he was a wonderful piggie with such a personality and can understand why you would like one :) If I was you I would wait untill all the piggies that you have , have given birth and all babies have been rehomed. Then start your search then space will not be compromised if any rescue cases arise. Good luck with your search I am sure there are some around Notts :)
 
I already have about 6 possible homes for my babies :o and plus my nana really wants two of maggs' babies which is really nice, she had a guinea pig when i was little and thats what made me love them so much! :smitten: :smitten: She chose maggs for me, so she will always be a special piggy! :) :smitten: :smitten:
 
Miler where are you? Down here by me there are two rex girls looking for a home they have both had 1 lot of babies already I guess the owners have what they want and want to get rid now I have been tempted to get them myself. They are asking £20 for them !
 
Too far I think! They are down in the southwest near Bristol.
 
Hmm well thanks for telling me, people are so nice on here but I would only take up one space here if any and i think paying for it may have lost the point. I will wait til one arrives here or when a breeder just wants a good retirement home for a piggy instead of some cash ;) But thank you so much for telling me! :smitten:
 
NoOooo, but there are plenty of gorgeous piggies out there and already in my house so i can wait O0 I know i could probably go to a breeder and buy one but i REALLY dont want to and i'd feel like i let myself down if i did ::) If i saw a poorly one on a petshop thats about the only time i'd pay, or a donation to a rescue obviously! ::) ;D
 
I completely understand that, will still keep my eyes and ears open. :)
 
Rexes do come up in rescue so take heart!

I love rex pigs too but am very dead set on only taking rescue pigs but I have still managed to have plenty of gorgeous rexes as part of my mob! At the moment I have 5 rexes out of my 13 strong gang.

Good luck in finding one to love yourself - they are well worth it ;)
 
I have really yes! If i get a sow i am certain after quarentine my own gang of girls ( that sounds so good ;D ) would take them in no problems as they are good like that...but a boar would have to be a larry until having to be slowly paired with someone else! (def not dirty harry!) ;D
 
O.K. well I have found a boar in a rescue if your interested let me know. O0
 
I'm in the south west so i can't really keep an eye out round here lol
