Am I being horrible?

My friends all got guinea pigs at the same time as me (three years ago) and I noticed they weren't being looked after properly. I tried to drop hints and even offer to let them come to the vets with mine but they wouldn't listen

Four friends + eight dead guinea pigs = me being really angry

I told them it was because they weren't looking after them properly and they got really angry saying how guinea pigs are stupid anyway

Am I being horrible and was I right to tell them off? I feel I should have gotten in touch with the RSPCA now but it's to late 8...

you are not horrible at all,just make it one of those things you learn from and contact the authoritys as soon as the neglect your advice next time.And yes you were right to tell them off good on you for standing up for the piggies x

I keep crying about it and I'm really emotional
I have to keep going and hugging my piggies to make myself feel better

you have every right to have a go they are living animals with hearts and should be treated like any other animals with love why have them . if not going to treat them prop . was it one of those you were having some so they wanted some . my friend has done that my daughter got two so then her son kept going on that he wanted some so his mum got him some . but he does not bother with them its down to his mum to look after them
 
It's very hard to stand by - but they were not your property, so it is not easy when all you can put to work is persuasion. I'm not so sure whether the RSPCA would have come out.

Unfortunately, you cannot save every animal in need - but you tried, and that counts a lot!
 
I agree with vickyt. Well done you for speaking to them, It can be a tricky situation when it is friends involved, .
Probably they realise their neglect now and thats why they retaliated with the comment guinea pigs are stupid.
Although you are obviously upset, you did your best to encourage them to take proper care of their piggies.

Maybe I have made a difference

Thanks everyone

One of my friends called me last night and said that she was sorry she didn't look after them and that I was right:(|). She has a pair of gerbils and says she'll look after them better. In fact when I take my guinea's for a quick check up she's coming with her gerbils because she thinks they have mites. It's nice to think that maybe I have made a difference for those gerbils lives. I just wish she'd realised sooner.

I think you deserve a medal for speaking out. It is very difficult to do when friends are involved. At least one of them has seen the light and hopefully her gerbils will have a better life than her guinea pigs and that is down to you :) x
