As alot of u know fudge passed away a few weeks ago. Nibbles fudge's brother now just comes out into the cage and lays wherever he wants and sleeps the reason I'm worried is because fudge would lay by the hay and then we discovered he was ill. Could nibbles be the same or am I just being paranoid.. as I'm not worried about his eating or drinking unlike fudge who went off hia food.... could this just mean nibbles is now comfortable to be out in the open? xx

Hes always been cuddly and doesn't try to run away when I'm holding him. X

It sounds like Nibbles is much more confident now. Guinea pigs don't loose their appetite just from sleeping in or next to the hay and if it had been something infectious, it would have shown up by now. You are always a lot more jittery after the unexpected or very sudden death of a guinea pig.

If you are worried about company, I would recommend to date him at one of our recommended rescues, so Nibbles can decide who or whether he likes to live with another boar, but you only come home with a new companion if there has been success. We can also guarantee for the rescues listed that they rehome only healthy, treated and quarantined guinea pigs.

Please always see a vet very promptly if you notice loss of appetite and if possible have stuff ready that you can step in with syringe feeding and syringing water asap. There are lots of tips in our syringe feeding guide.

It's natural to be more paranoid and wary so closer after a loss. *hugs* x

No you are not being paranoid, I have seen this several times ,
I lerent my lesson many years ago , when one of my 2 boar pares lost
a partner , the serviving boar lost all interest in life , and was fading fast .

Lucky I introduced a new partner in time
within a few hours he was a happy lad again
for this very reason I now always keep my pigs in groups of 3,
this way if one passes , there is never a pig left alone

It doesn't haven to many pigs , and when it do's it seems to be boars
I have never witnessed a sow going down hill due to a loss

I wound not take a chance , get him a partner ,
a devied cage is best , untill the bond is established

Then it is most likely a sign of being very relaxed and confident in his new relationship. I am always very happy seeing a piggy of mine sleeping out in the open. ;)

I think I'm worried as fudge slept outof bedroom then passed away xx

I am very sorry, but while this occurrance may have been exceptional for Fudge, it is not a symptom for any acute illness. Fudge may likely been too weak or not well enough to make it back into his usual hidey, but he did show other symptoms by then, didn't he?

As Nibbles is perfectly well in himself and eating and drinking normally, there really is nothing for you to worry about. ;)

Yes fudge went off his food in the last few days and also had crusty eyes n nose xx
