Pearl and Zip
Teenage Guinea Pig
In the morning, my two pigs get 1/8 cup of oxbow pellets each. Each pig gets about 6mg of vitamin C from the pellets.
I also crush up their vitamin C supplement into powder and sprinkle it on the pellets, as they will not eat it by itself. They get 25mg of vitamin C from this each, assuming they eat all of it and don’t leave some of the powder at the bottom like they usually do.
My guinea pigs got a late Christmas gift from a friend. They got oxbow freeze dried strawberry treats. I crush up two of these and put them in the pellet bowl, to hopefully make the vitamin C supplement taste better. They also get one extra each, just because they love them. The recommended amount is to feed at most 4 treats each (they’re REALLY small). They get two each so I don’t think I’m giving them too many.
I give them hay from smallpetselect.com. They get the second cut. They get an unlimited supply of hay and water. I provide two water bottles for my two piggies.
They get a handful of veggies each at dinner time. The veggies are mostly lettuce, but they get a variety (chard, spinach, kale, cilantro, etc.)
Occasionally they get a “Timothy hay twist”, which is basically hay twisted together. It was from the same person who gave the treats.
Is this what I’m supposed to be feeding them? I’ve heard some people also feed them joint support stuff, gas relief stuff, herbs, etc.
I weighed my pigs today. Pearl (female) weighs 1075g and Zip (female) weighs 989g.
