Am I feeding them too much?

Hi my two piggies have been with us now for a month and everything is great, they are very happy and health wise seem fine. The only concern I have is that they 'Poo' constantly! I have to clean them out at least three times a day. I left them for four hours this afternoon after I cleaned out the cage and when I looked in on them I must have counted more than 100 poos. Is this normal? They have one bowl of food that I top up each day and one small bowl of fresh fruit and veg a day. My husband thinks I give them too much but I thought this was the norm.

They poop a lot, a hell of a lot. Its normal. :)

I give 1 handful of pellets a day per pig, 2 handfuls of hay per pig per day usually morning and night or when needed and also 2 portions of veg a day 5 different veggies in each serving. :)
 
Mine have their dry food topped up when needed, unlimited hay, a handful of readigrass & a mix of 7-8 veggies once a day :)
 
Yep top up when needed as they like the graze. It's good they poop all the time. As they are grazers they need to keep their systems moving throughout the day and night. :)
 
you clean them out 3 times a day? wow. that is dedication - and must cost you a fortune!

I find that mine will poo all over the place, but will only wee in one corner, so if the rest of the bedding is still fresh we'll sometimes just clean that corner between full cleans.

you must have the freshest piggies in the world!
 
Yeah my piggies poo a lot too and same as Gemmy said above my piggies like weeing in only one corner, they are funny :p
 
Yep mine poo for England too and they wee everywhere there is hay...

I clean mine out every other day or every 3 days, they get cleaned out at least twice a week whatever happens...
 
Thanks for your replies! That makes me feel better! Sorry when I meant I clean them out I meant pick up all the poops, there's no way I could afford to lay fresh bedding down each time. Although I do replace it with a little fresh hay to keep it looking cosy!

Guinea pigs seem to spend each waking minute pooing! rolleyes

It's just as well that we don't have to buy toilet paper for them as well! :)):)):))

Ours poop constantly. It always amazes me when i get back to the run when they been out a while and there are millions of them everywhere! Ours have their hay racks topped up twice a day, the dry food bowls topped up once a day and a bowl of greens in the evening.

I am also from Southampton and my Hubby and I love our guinea pigs. I am a guinea pig slave who works full time !
