It appears that we have a hay shortage around here at the minute due to the bad weather :( Our local Range (where I usually get the hay from) haven't had any in for for a week so I had to get 2 big bags from our local pet shop that doesn't sell live stock on Tuesday. Because my piggies are outdoors, they are going through mountains of hay in this cold weather. Well, my hubby went to the pet shop for me today to buy some more and the guy in the pet shop only had 2 small bags left! He explained to Chris about the hay shortage and said he was hoping to get some more on Monday but he couldn't be certain. Anyway, even though we still have 2 large bags of hay plus the 2 small ones left, chris rang me at work to warn me so after work, I ended up calling at P@H which has been demolished as I think people are panic buying and they haven't been having normal deliveries due to the snow. I think I went a bit mad as I ended up spending almost £30 on wood shavings, meadow hay, woodlands hay and guinea pig nuggets. I then called in at Asda to buy some Wagg guinea pig crunch and Wagg gerbil munch.

I would rather have too much than not enough but I am now thinking that may be I have over reacted :)) Am I mad?

Better to be safe than sorry Claire! It'll always come in handy for your girls anyway! :)

I admit that I went to P@H yesterday and stocked up on cat and piggie foods and treats too though, just in case :))

No not mad you definately need the bedding but I'd say maybe a wee bit of panic buying thrown ;)

Nope your not mad!

My saying is 'better to be safe than sorry' when it comes to the animals anyway! Ive panic bought in this weather for the pigs and stocked up on veggies, ive got enough dry food and hay to last me ages! I also had a huge box of orchard grass from Lisa today so I'm not short on hay. :)

I do think my family think I'm mad when I'm stocking up on the greens for the boys.

NAH sounds perfectly normal to me! At least you know you're all ready and you'll use it in the end.

AS you are living in a village, you are doing the sensible thing! In these conditions, it's better safe than sorry!

I went and got a new big pellet bag (even though the old one will probably last the week) and more hay - and things aren't bad compared to other parts of the country, as supplies are still coming in!

I think, given that we've had some threads on here about some people running out of things, you have been very sensible :)

Definitely not mad - or if you are so am I:))

I drove 3 miles today along very small country roads to get hay and straw for the pigs and bunnies. Never been so terrified in my life but couldn't bare the thought of running out.

no ill store the hay and food will be used anyway by the piggies better to have got it now none of us know when the snow is going to stop and things get back to normal

I agree, you've definitely been very smart! Given that this weather could last another week or more, much better that you're overflowing with supplies than panicking and worrying yourself because you've not got enough.
