I have been needing some dental treatment for quite some time now, but the NHS waiting list is going on for months and months.

My boyfriend suggested just going private, if it costs a bit more who cares, as long as I am healthy.

Now guinea pig bills keep popping up, and I keep putting my visit to the dentists off to some point later.

He says its silly, and I should put my own health first, but I am somehow thinking:

I am an adult and responsible for myself, these little things cant help themselves, so I am responsible for them, and should put them first.. I can get treatment any time, they cant.

Its just that family is looking sideways at me when I keep saying we cant afford this, we cant afford that, and at the same time go and have my piggies seen to by god knows how many vets.. they think I dont have my priorities right, I suppose...

:-\

I think if you keep animals you must always put them first my pigs are treated like my kids and would come before me for anything needed, no you're not stupid but equally you must get your teeth done sooner or later think of the pain of a tooth ache ugh!so maybe start saving seperatly for the pigs necessitys I have one credit card that is for pigs only,

When I moved up to Lancs I couldn't get a NHS dentist so eventually I've joined one which does Denplan. The monthly cost varies from about £12, my costs £19 a month as I have quite a lot of existing work done. For that you get two yearly check ups, three scale and polishes a year and any treatment excluding lab bills.

For me it's the only way for me to afford dental work.

For my buns/pigs it would be a credit card too, luckily I've only had routine neuters and vaccs for the buns so far

I do agree piggies health very important but if you suffer terrible toothache or get an abcess by not getting vital dental care, you would find it hard to care for your piggies anyway! Look after your teeth. Ever seen granny without her falsies in! :o Not a pretty sight, and could come to you sooner rather than later ;D

I had a very nasty abcess last Christmas. It had been niggling away for weeks beforehand, but flarred up on Boxing Day. There was no dentist open and the NHS Direct was no help. Eventually it got so bad I had to go to A&E. They refered me to another hospital and I finally got treatment.
I realise that our piggers need every care also, but don't put off the dentist.
