Am I the only member out of the regulars with a neutered boar and spayed sow pair? ( just curious)

Quite possibly at the moment. I had a spayed sow as part of my neutered boar and 3 sows group before but as sows are generally only spayed for medical reasons they are rarer

Cool, yea like dot was for medical reasons. I'd never want to put a sow through that again unless I had to. 😕 Not nice, big scar left behind

Was it a tummy scar? When Bumble was done they went in through the flank which meant that she had staples. I'm a little squeamish so it was worse for me than her, especially going to have them removed, but she healed very quickly

I believe so... I’ve got a boar pair
Would like to own a sow at some point, it’s the health issues that sows get a lot that scare me

I'm not sure why you think sows get more health problems. I've only had one where the health problem needed intervention and was gender specific and that was Bumble. Most of mine have had the same health conditions as boars (renal disease, abscesses, teeth problems, UTI's, fatty lumps). In fact my most expensive piggy vet wise was Donald with his abscess and then bladder stones in awkward places

Yea about 3 inches long. But might be because of that uterus tumour removal aswell. So maybe the spay isn't so bad after all.

Well yes boars can't get them but the majority of ovarian cysts don't cause problems. That said impaction is usually a boar issue
I've had one boar with impaction, it is a nightmare to keep on top of. I hope neutering makes it less trouble

My Reggie was neutered but also suffered from impaction in his final months. He’s the only boar I’ve had with it though so can’t really compare with a boar that wasn’t neutered, so can’t help you there sorry!
