My Guinea Pig, Truffle, who is beginning to recover from his illness has began to eat baby oatmeal. Truffle began to lose the will to eat and drink due to his illness which made him very weak, so i am feeding him through a syringe 3 times a day. We have tried baby food, doesn't like it, but then we tried baby oatmeal and he can't get enough of it. Plus, Truffle is serioously under weight and in a day he gained .4 ounces. So if you ever have to feed a guinea pig like I did, use baby cereal, oatmeal.

I am glad that your piggy is pulling through and putting back on weight. Baby oats are not bad for putting on weight, but there are quite a few empty calories in there.

If you tried hay based Critical Care or mushed hay based pellets, that would be even better because hay should be the mainstay of a piggy diet (up to 80%). I also add a pinch of probiotics to stimulate the appetite and give extra vitamin C (1/8 of a human tablet syringed dissolved in a bit of water for best results) to make sure that a piggy won't get into vitamin C deficiency when off their usual diet.

Here are more tips for hand feeding and caring for ill guinea pigs:

All the best for a good recovery!

Glad to hear Truffle is on the mend and found something he wants to eat. Maybe now he's started eating it'd be a good time to try critical care or the mashed pellets as described by Wiebke.... you could always mix them in with the oatmeal to start with.

Hope he recovers soon,

x
