Mavis is one of Scrapper's wives. She came here as a 4 month old already pregnant. She had 4 babies but developed hind leg paralysis during her pregnancy.
Since then she has been prone to chest infections for which the vet prescribes antibiotics.
For the last few weeks she has been losing a bit of weight and coughing , but there were no signs of a chest infection so she was just given metacam.
Last night I noticed that she had suddenly become very breathless and was very weak, her lips and feet looked blue. I feared the worst and managed to get her to take some of her antibiotics and some bisolvon. I really expected to find her dead this morning, but she was sat up looking quite comfortable and eating her hay!
I suspect that she perhaps aspirates food sometimes and it triggers her symptoms.
So a miracle piggy, such a tough lady

Has she been checked for potential heart issues? Glad that she is still here!

Go Mavis. Glad she had got through that. Blue feet must have been worrying.... TeaCake has intermittent breathing issues when he sounds like a creaky door and it seems to be throat related but manages to freak me out every time. Hope Mavis keeps going and keeps that Scrapper in check!

Mavis is better as regards her breathing and is now more ruttly in her upper airways, that doesn't worry me as much. She is managing to eat normally but has a bit of diarrhoea from the antibiotics. Overall l think she will be fine, thankyou for all your kind words x

Breathing and chest problems are my biggest worry with piggies, you have to get in quickly with treatment, they go downhill so fast. Ruttles in the nose and throat are not so worrying, its when their breathing is affected. Trust teacake to keep you on your toes!
