Superpiggies
Junior Guinea Pig
Hello everyone,
I just wanted to share an experience with you all, and hopefully you can learn from it!
So, on a christmas (or some point where we had to go on holiday to england) our neighbours couldn't take care of our piggies so we had to find someone else to look after them. My dad went to buy some hay, and whilst he was there, he asked if they knew a pet sitter, and they said they could look after pets. We were very pleased with that, but it didn't turn out as good as we thought it would be. We chose to separate the piggies as they are boars and, well, we wouldnt want them to fight.
After we came back to collect them and we had put them back in the cage, they were fighting and fighting and i was really nervous i thought i was going to have a panic attack! (But.. i didnt luckily!). We didnt separate them (I dont know why but i really regret it!).
Next morning, we were in shock as we had seen hairless, dry patches on Oskars back. We called the vet and got an appointment the next day. When we came to the vets, i was about to faint, when the vet said Oskar had MANGE. Now mange is spreadable.. of course in different cages and animals. So, we dont know if they had put Oskar in a dirty cage where a infected animal had been or if he was put in with a female who was infected. (we really doubt that) We had to put cream on it every night, and every week for 3 weeks we went to the vet so the piggies (Also woody although he didnt have it, but just so he might get it in the future) could get an injection. It worked very well, and yes, but we were really mad at the staff.
Another bad thing which we found out after the vet visit, that the guinea pigs couldnt like.. remember each other? They didnt remember their scents..? (Cant remember) Well, they just didnt seem to know each other. And as you know, boars fight with strangers.
Now, from now on we have kept them separate but we do put them together in the run. That petshop where Oskar got the Mange, was the same place where we bought them...mallethead so.. I'm a bit guilty about that, also that i didnt know that there was something called an animal shelter! We still go there, and i look at the baby guinea pigs. And those cute little angels had ear diseases and infections. There are little holes in the cages and i could hear a piggie that breathed like it had URI! Of course i would really like to put a stop to this.. but.. i am too young for that!
Welp.. sorry if i have been a chatter box 8
- But i hope you learned from this thread to be careful when choosing your petsitting.. area..!
