An Extra Toe

My Abby, Huxley, has an extra toe on one of his back feet (which i know is a birth defect). It's only attached by a small piece of skin but has a blood supply cos the nail needs clipping when i do the rest.
It doesn't cause him any discomfort and doesn't hinder him in any way.
I'm reluctant to have it removed because of the risks with the anaesthetic.
Am i best to just leave alone? What would you do?

First off aww he is so handsome! If it doesn't hnder him or cause him any discomfort I would be inclined to leave it the only reason i can think to take it off would be inacse he were to catch it... my advice would be to have someone like a rodentologist look at it. They will be able to tell you the best plan of action, and possibly even remove it without putting him under.
 
if it was a proper additional toe i would just leave it - however if its quite floppy and only held there by skin really then i would feel like its a bit too risky. you never know; one day something might make him jump and he catches it on a grid or some chicken wire...

Just to be on the safe side, I would probably have it removed.

Hi,
My boys are in wooden hutches not C & C cages so there's no risk of him catching it on a grid or wire, that's not to say he couldn't catch it on anything else :)

Thanks for that, i've never seen another piggy with the same thing, aint it weird it's on the same foot too, mebbe they are long-lost cousins! ;D ;D
 
LOL I have but only a few! Makes them more special.

Are you going to leave it Nikki? Like I said, Jin had his til he died and never caught it :)

Yep i'm gonna leave it, it makes him him, he's such a sweet natured boy.
i bought him from a pet shop 'cos i felt sorry for him; he was on his own with a rabbit. The pet shop said i couldn't have him with another boy piggie cos he was older and that was the reason he was on his own and that i'd be better to keep him with the rabbit!
I took him straight home, got my partner to go back and buy the other piggie i'd seen, who is now Hamish and the rest, as they say, is history! ;D ;D
