Hi there guys. So my older boy, who it's under a year old. Has a pretty smelly bum I've already felt the area and nothing seems to be impacted or hard. But it did have a small string that as a I pulled, it put off an horrendous smell. I already know that I need to clean it up with q.tips and mineral oil. My problem is that I can't find the oil anywhere. Can I use anything else to help Flash with his ?

Thank you
XoXo

Was it a small yellowy looking string that came out of his winkie rather than his bottom? If so you have just experienced your first sperm rod. Congratulations! :lol!: And yes - they utterly stink! The joys of owning boars. I would just give him a bum bath in some nice warm soapy water (preferably piggy specific shampoo) to get rid of any residual smell but you should find that now the rod has gone he is more pleasant to be around. With my boys I can tell from the smell if they have a rod before I even find it!:vom:

Please just use hand warm water or coconut oil.
Here is our guide on how to do it properly: Impaction Recovery - How To Help Your Guinea Pig.

You can minimise a beginning impaction to a certain extent by a controlled diet. Make sure that you feed a high fibre diet and that you serve always the same food (veg/pellets) at the same time. 80% of the daily food intake should be hay to stabilise the guts. I would strongly recommend that you switch to the nutritionally belanced diet that we recommend under "daily veg" for that reason.

Yup it was white/yellowish rod with a string. I may have pulled it out of his pénis area. He was on my lap, and I thought he was just smelly and in need of a bath then I saw that hanging out from his genital area. At first I thought it was some hay stuck in there then I felt that freak smell even stronger as I pulled it out. It was a small thing maybe 2/3 cm.. It fit in my finger head..
Then I felt his genitals for more of that and hard places and found nothing more. The smell diminished astronomically to almost none after that.

Thank you for the links I've already read them last night after my near fainting experience. (X
And their diet it's nice and balanced. I've always maintained my pigs in this diet (veg/pellets/meadowhay) but it's the first time I've experienced this particular smell.

Boar things, whether it is impaction, semen rods/boar glue are all extremely pungent. :yikes:

We currently have got a detailed boar guide that is nearly ready for puclication on the way.
