Ali seems to have become known as the Guinea Pig man at his work lately although he claims it's Lisa thats the driving force behind our ever growing herd. Recently he was chatting to one of his colleagues when the subject of a family who were talking about giving away their two one year old guinea pig boars on gumtree or some similar site. This obviously infuriated us as we hate any guinea pig being sold as a commodity so we immediately got on the case. We got Alis colleague to contact the family with the view to ensure that these boys didnt end up in the wrong type of home. The more we talked about this we then started to think about adopting these boys ourselves, after all we have the space and already have a couple of boars Wallace and Tim and the beginnings of a mixed group with a neutered boar Ouzo and his wifepig Morgan, and waiting for Tia to finish her pregnancy watch at Hutches Rescue.
So the rest is history............ we collected the boars earlier today and they are happily munching away at the hay in the cage whilst we sort out their proper house. We have to say that the family were very friendly and like so many others did not know that rescues existed but were more than happy to allow us to take over the care of these boars. We spent ages chatting to them about guinea pigs, their care and their social wellbeing. Just to be on the safe side these boys are currently being quarantined and will be visiting our vets in the next few days for a healthcheck. They do seem slightly underweight when compared to our two pigs who are around the same age, although we're not too worried at the moment as they are both tucking into their nom noms.
Anyway enough of the blurb - here are some photos, the first of many no doubt, of our new boys.
Heres Fred and Barney together.......
